Hokies return home to face No. 4 Syracuse

GAME NOTES

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech lacrosse team will host No. 4 Syracuse tomorrow at noon at Thompson Field.

THE HOKIES

The Hokies will finally play at home for the first time in over a month tomorrow after last playing at Thompson Field on March 8 vs. Notre Dame.

Tech is trying to snap a seven-game losing streak but five of the seven losses have come to teams ranked No. 17 or better with the last four games away from home and two of those opponents ranked in the top six. Syracuse will be the sixth team ranked in the IWLCA Poll that Tech has faced so far this season.

The two teams met in Syracuse last season with the No. 7 Orange taking a 22-8 victory. The Orange beat Tech 18-4 the last time they were in Blacksburg on April 5, 2014.

Meghan Macera ranks second in the ACC in caused turnovers with 2.36 and fourth in ground balls at 2.64. Macera leads the team with 50 draw controls, 33 caused turnovers and 37 ground balls so far this season.

Kristine Loscalzo leads the team with 28 total points on 25 goals and three assists. Jessi Thon is second on the team with 22 goals and also has four assists. Tristan McGinley has scored 21 times and has a team-high seven assists.

Hannah Sieger is coming off a game in which she tied a career-high with eight saves at No. 3 North Carolina. She has hit the eight save mark on five occasions this season.

THE ORANGE

The Orange are coming off a doubleheader in which they beat No. 14 Duke at home 14-12 before traveling to Canisus where the game was suspended due to snow with the score tied 10-10 at halftime. That game will be resumed at a later date.

Syracuse has won its last three completed games with wins over Duke, Connecticut and Notre Dame. All three of the Orange losses this season have come to ranked teams in No. 1 Maryland, No. 2 Florida and No. 11 Boston College.

Offensively, Syracuse is led by Kayla Treanor has a team-high 54 points on 32 goals with 22 assists. Treanor ranks second in the ACC in assists per game (1.83) and third in goals per game (2.67). The Orange also have Halle Majorana who has 44 points on 25 goals and 19 assists.

As a team, Syracuse is third in the conference in goals per game (13.38) and second in assists per game (6.77). Syracuse also leads the conference in draw controls per game at 35.08.

Defensively, Kaeli O’Connor is tied with Mallory Vehar with 10 caused turnovers on the season. O’Connor is also second on the team with 19 ground balls.

In goal, Allie Murray has started every game and has a team-high 32 ground balls. She has a 9.10 goals against average and made 63 saves on 238 shots faced.
