LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Virginia Tech lacrosse team will continue Atlantic Coast Conference play at No.6 Louisville on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. after playing two nonconference games.
THE HOKIES
The Hokies are playing their third straight road game as they face No. 6 Louisville. Tech will complete a four-game road trip on Wednesday at North Carolina.
Four of the last five opponents Tech has faced have been ranked in the IWLCA Top 20 Coaches Poll at No. 17 or higher.
In their last game, the Hokies, playing their last nonconference game of the season, jumped out to a 5-0 lead to start the game and led 9-5 with 21:40 left in the second half. William and Mary rallied to score the final four goals to send the game into overtime and got the game-winner with 3:06 left in the overtime frame.
The Hokies scored first and led for all but the last 7:42 of regulation time and never trailed until the game-winner.
Tech is led offensively by Tristan McGinley who has a team-high 28 total points. She has scored 21 goals with a team-high 7 assists. Kristine Loscalzo is just behind her with 27 total points after she’s scored a team-best 24 goals to go along with three assists.
Defensively, the Hokies are led by Meghan Macera who has 30 caused turnovers and 43 draw controls. She also has a team-high 31 ground balls on the season.
Hannah Sieger has started every game in goal and has made 64 saves and holds a 11.55 goals against average.
THE CARDINALS
The No. 6 Cardinals enter Saturday’s game holding a 10-1 overall mark with a 2-1 record in ACC play. Louisville has won three straight non-conference games since their last ACC match against Duke.
Their last game was an 11-7 win over Cincinnati on Wednesday. Hannah Koloski scored five goals while Kaylin Morissette scored three goals while capturing 10 of the 19 draw controls.
The Cardinals are led offensively by Kaylin Morissette with 36 total points as she has scored 26 goals and added 10 assists. Cortnee Daley has 31 points from 24 goals and seven assists while Koloski has 30 points, scoring 28 goals and adding two assists. Kelly Gerding is narrowly behind with 29 points, scoring 14 goals and adding a team-high 15 assists.
Brittany Read is the Cardinals goalkeeper and she has a 6.28 goals against average. The sophomore goalie has started every match this season and recorded 85 saves.
Louisville is coming off a 2015 season in which they reached the NCAA Tournament but fell in the first round to Northwestern.
The Cardinals were selected to finish seventh in the ACC preseason poll and Louisville returned eight starters from last year’s team that finished with a No. 18 ranking by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association.
