BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech women's lacrosse team will play its last nonconference game of the season at William and Mary at 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
THE HOKIES
The Hokies are playing their second game of a four-game road trip. The team is coming off a tough stretch of games in which their last three games have come against opponents all ranked in the IWLCA Top 20 Coaches Poll. Tech is trying to snap a four-game losing streak.
The Hokies defeated the Tribe 12-10 last season in a game in Blacksburg and have won two straight against William and Mary.
Kristine Loscalzo, Gracee Hendrix and Tristan McGinley each scored a goal in the win over the Tribe last season.
Last time out, Tech lost a heartbreaking game to No. 17 Ohio State, 10-8. The Hokies trailed 5-3 midway through the first half but scored four unanswered goals that helped them take a 7-6 lead at halftime. Tech went up 8-6 but Ohio State scored four straight goals to take the victory.
The Hokies are led by Loscalzo who has a team-high 22 goals with three assists for 25 total points.
McGinley has 19 goals to go along with a team-high seven assists. Jessi Thon has 15 goals and four assists.
Defensively, Meghan Macera has 27 caused turnovers and 29 ground balls. Macera also leads the team with 40 draw controls.
In goal, Hannah Sieger has an 11.76 goals against average and has made 57 saves on 227 shots faced.
THE TRIBE
William and Mary lost their last outing to Connecticut 13-6 on Wednesday.
The Tribe are playing their last of a four-game homestand against Tech.
William and Mary has played two teams that are common opponents so far this season with Virginia Tech. The Tribe beat Old Dominion 17-14 and Gardner-Webb 19-3.
The Hokies defeated Gardner-Webb 17-2 and lost at Old Dominion 10-7 earlier this season.
William and Mary is 2-2 at home this season but have lost three of their last four games coming into the contest.
The Tribe is led by Shannon Quinn who has a team-high 18 goals as well as 11 groundballs and 12 draw controls.
Abby Corkum, a CAA All-Rookie selection last season, is second on the team with 12 total points on 10 goals and two assists. McKinley Wade also has 10 goals for the Tribe.
Three different goalkeepers have started at least one game for William and Mary. Alex Lista has played the most with four starts and six appearances. She has a 11.97 goals against average and 40 saves on 110 shots faced.
The Tribe was selected to finish sixth in the seven-team CAA preseason poll.
