GAME NOTES

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech lacrosse team will play its second home game in four days as they face No. 6 Notre Dame in an Atlantic Coast Conference match at 3 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon.

THE HOKIES

The Hokies are coming off their ACC opener in which they fell to No. 15 Duke, 13-4. Zan Biedenharn, Meghan Macera, Kristine Loscalzo and Paige Murray each scored a goal for Tech. Loscalzo had a team-high four shots, all on frame.

Kristen Kohles had a team-high five ground balls while Kelsey Allen had three. Macera led the team with three draw controls and three caused turnovers. Hannah Sieger made seven saves in goal.

Tech and Notre Dame, former conference foes in the Big East, will be meeting for just the seventh time and the third time as members of the ACC. The Irish hold a 6-0 advantage in the series.

Tristan McGinley leads Tech in total points with 24 on 17 goals and seven assists. Kristine Loscalzo has a team-high 18 goals and three asssits. Macera, a defender, has also been an offensive threat and ranks third on the team with 13 goals. She also has a team-high 26 caused turnovers, 35 draw controls and 29 ground balls.

Sieger has started every game in goal and made 41 saves.

Tech lost 15-8 last season at Notre Dame. The Hokies were tied 7-7 with the Fighting Irish at halftime before Notre Dame outscored the Hokies 7-1 in the second half.

Hendrix, Loscalzo and Macera each scored a goal in the loss. Jessi Thon also added an assist.

THE FIGHTING IRISH

Notre Dame is led by Virginia Tech lacrosse alumna Christine Halfpenny. Halfpenny played in Blacksburg for the Hokies from 1996-99.

She was a four-year letterwinner and a starter on the 1999 Tech team that won the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship and went 11-6 while earning the program’s first top-20 ranking.

Notre Dame is 5-1 this season with the lone loss coming on the road to No. 5 Louisville on Saturday, 10-9 in overtime.

The Fighting Irish haven’t allowed an assisted goal in three of their last four games. Through six games, Notre Dame has only allowed eight assists total.

Notre Dame has outscored opponents 89-34 overall for an average scoreline of 14.7-5.6.

A majority of the Fighting Irish's scoring comes in the first half where they have a 50-12 advantage and only a 39-21 edge in the second half of games.

The team is led by Cortney Fortunato who has 21 goals and 12 assists, both team-highs. She was an IWLCA Third Team All-American selection as a freshman last season.

Rachel Sexton is second of the team with 14 goals and five assists. Barbara Sullivan leads the team with 27 draw controls, 16 caused turnovers and 14 ground balls.

Samantha Giacolone has started every game in the cage with 42 saves on 100 shots and a 5.50 goals against average.
