The Hokies (3-2) saw their three-game winning streak come to an end with a loss to the Dukes. Tech fell behind early and faced a 5-0 deficit just over 10 minutes in and trailed 10-2 at halftime.
The Hokies would make a run at the start of the second half as they scored three of the first four goals to cut the JMU lead to 11-5 with 21:03 remaining in regulation. JMU stopped the run and the Hokies were unable to score for the remainder of the game.
Five Tech players scored a goal and Paige Murray had an assist. Kristine Loscalzo, Gracee Hendrix, Zan Biedenharn, Jessi Thon and Kelly Glatthorn each scored for the Hokies.
Tech went 13-of-15 on clear attempts for the game. JMU had a 34-13 advantage in total shots but a 24-12 advantage in shots on goal. The Hokies turned the ball over 15 times to JMU’s 10 while the Dukes had an 18-14 advantage in ground balls and 15-9 in draw controls.
Loscalzo had a team-high six shots with five being on goal. Hendrix had two shots with both of them being on goal. Kristen Kohles had two caused turnovers and three ground balls while Meghan Macera had five draw controls in the contest.
JMU started the game scoring five straight goals before Hendrix got the Hokies on the scoreboard with 15:00 left in the first half. The Dukes increased their lead to 9-1 before Tech would score again with Glatthorn getting the goal.
Tech started its second half run with goals from Loscalzo, Biedenharn and Thon but 11-5 would be as close as the Hokies would get. The Dukes scored seven straight goals to pull away for the victory.
Tech will return home for a game on Sunday at 2 p.m. against High Point.
