Tech travels to Davidson for Wednesday tilt
Hokies playing second straight road game

GAME NOTES

BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech lacrosse team travels to take on Davidson at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday night at Richardson Stadium.

Virginia Tech (1-1) is meeting Davidson (0-0) for the 18th time overall with the Hokies holding a 13-4 record against the Wildcats. The Hokies won the last meeting between the two schools back in 2013 in Blacksburg by a score of 12-8.

It marks the second straight road game as Tech is coming off a dominating 18-1 win at Gardner-Webb on Sunday afternoon. Overall, the Hokies are in the midst of playing three of four games on the road.

Junior Tristan McGinley led the way for the Hokies as she had four goals and three assists, both career-highs. Hannah Sieger made five saves on the six shots she faced in the contest. Nine players overall scored a goal for Tech inlcuding seven of them who scored multiple goals. For the game, the Hokies only allowed eight shots the entire contest as they outshot the Runnin’ Bulldogs 30-8 overall and 27-6 in shots on goal.

After facing Davidson, the Hokies will host Liberty on Saturday with a new time and place. Tech will now play at 5 p.m. instead of 2 p.m. and the game will be at the new Virginia Tech Indoor Practice Facility.

Davidson is opening its season against Virginia Tech as the Wildcats are entering their 23rd season as a program and the second as a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference. They were previously a member of the Big South Conference for women's lacrosse.

Holly Thomas was named to the A-10 All-Second Team last season after posting 33 groundballs, 21 draw controls and 21 caused turnovers. Sophomores Paige Farrar and Rachel HIanik were both named to the A-10 All-Rookie Team last season.

The squad lost Emily Cooke, the school’s all-time assist leader and second in career points, to graduation as well as Emily Rademacher, the team’s MVP as she scored 32 goals, had nine assists and 68 draw controls. Davidson will also have a new starting goalkeeper this season as they will have to replace Katie Boyle who was the career-leader in goals against average (9.56).

The Wildcats have six seniors, two of which have earned all-conference honors. Senior Emma Sissman was first team All-Big South in 2014 when she scored 50 goals and had 75 draw controls. She only recorded 19 goals and 56 draw controls last season in 16 games.
