BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech lacrosse team has announced their challenging 2016 schedule that concludes by hosting the 2016 ACC Championships for the first time in Lane Stadium.
The seventeen-game schedule includes seven opponents that made the 2015 NCAA Lacrosse Championships and three of the four NCAA semifinalists. The slate includes seven home contests and 10 road games. Tech will also face six opponents from the state of Virginia.
Tech will host 2015 NCAA semifinalists Duke and Syracuse and travel to semifinalist UNC. James Madison, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Virginia are all also NCAA Tournmanet teams from last season on the schedule.
"We're excited about the opportunity our schedule presents this year. Competing in the ACC and playing some of the best teams in the country is a challenge that we know will allow us to bring our best every time we take the field,” head coach Megan Burker said.
The Hokies kickoff the season at home as they host Navy before hitting the road to play Gardner-Webb and Davidson. They will then face four in-state opponents in the following five games as they host Liberty on Feb. 13 and travel to James Madison on Feb. 18. They play High Point on Feb. 21 before traveling to Radford and Old Dominion.
Tech begins Atlantic Coast Conference play on Mar. 5 and plays three NCAA Tournament teams from last year in a row as they host Duke and three days later welcome the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame to Blacksburg. They will have their final two nonconference matchups beginning on Mar. 13 as they travel to Columbus, Ohio to play Ohio State and then to Williamsburg, Va. to play William and Mary on Mar. 19.
The Hokies will then play three of their last five games away from home against ACC foes Louisville and North Carolina. They are at home against Syracuse on Apr. 9 then at Boston College Apr. 16. Tech concludes the regular-season with the Commonwealth Clash against Virginia at home on Apr. 22.
The ACC Championships will begin in Blacksburg with the quarterfinals Apr. 28, the semifinals on Apr. 29 and the championship game May 1.
