The Tar Heels enter the conference tournament as the No. 2 team in the country after capturing the regular season ACC title at No. 3 Duke on Friday. North Carolina claimed a 12-6 win over the Blue Devils, handing them just their second loss of the season.

THE SERIES

This is the 21st all-time meeting between the Hokies and Tar Heels, and the fourth post season meeting in the series. The two teams first met in 1996, and Tech has never claimed victory over the Heels. Then-No. 3 North Carolina took the regular season meeting earlier this year in Blacksburg, 14-5. Senior Megan Will put away three goals in the game. The last time the Hokies and Heels met in the postseason was in 2007. North Carolina hosted that year’s tournament and won the game 18-7.

LAST TIME OUT

The Hokies never let down in the regular season conference finale at Virginia. The No. 5 Cavaliers took the game 17-10, but the Tech stuck in it to the end. The Hokies tough start would end up deciding the game as they trailed 10-2 at halftime. Tech won the second half, cleaning up play and outdoing Virginia in nearly every category, but the damage was too much to overcome. Megan Will led Tech with five goals and an assist, while Cawley Bromley added a late hat trick.

RISE AND SHINE

This opening round ACC Tournament game marks the second of three morning starts for the Hokies this season. Tech took on Syracuse at 10 a.m. earlier this year and opening draw against Navy on May 2 is set for 11 a.m. Last year’s first round ACC Tournament game is the only other time since Tech joined the league, that is has played in the morning.

RECORD WATCH

Megan Will is quickly climbing the all-time charts at Tech, chasing her cousin, Dawn Will, who sits atop the career goals and points lists. Megan currently ranks second with 170 career goals and 218 career points. She is also sixth all-time at Tech with 48 career assists.

Will is one of just two players to rank among the all-time top 10 in all three offensive categories (Allie Emala 08-11).

Meg Bartley, who holds the all-time draws record at Tech, rnotched a spot on the all-time scoring list, ranking ninth with 108 goals to date.

Meghan Macera joined Bartley on the all-time draws list, as she has won 132 so far, good for fifth.

SCORING AT WILL

Senior Megan Will is currently in the midst of a 20-game scoring streak that dates back to last season. The Bel Air, Maryland, native is coming off a five-goal performance at Virginia last week.

Will has scored at least three goals in 15 of the last 20 games, as she climbs all three all-time offensive stat lists at Tech.

IT’S HERS TO SET

Meg Bartley became Tech’s all-time career draw controls leader after winning the opening draw of the second session of overtime in Tech’s win at Michigan. Bartley finished the game with six draws, and currently has 276 in her career. The Lewes, Delaware, native also holds the single-season record after propelling herself to 90 with a career-high 10 in the final game of the 2014 season. Her 74 draws this season rank third on the single-season list.

RUN FOR REMEMBRANCE

Following its final ACC game Friday night, the Tech lacrosse team participated in the 3.2 for 32, an annual run at Tech to remember those lost on April 16, 2007. As April Saturdays are often gamedays for the Hokies, this was the first time the team was able to participate.
