THE SERIES
The Hokies are 1-19 all-time against Virginia, claiming their only win of the series at home in 2012. The Cavaliers took last year’s meeting in Blacksburg, 17-12. Megan Will, Meg Bartley and Meghan Macera combined to score seven goals in the game. The Virginia series is the longest in program history, as the two schools have met every year since 1997. This marks the 13th consecutive meeting that the Cavaliers have been ranked when the two teams have met.
LAST TIME OUT
The Hokies kept things close the entire game, but were never able to take the lead, eventually falling 13-11 to No. 3 Boston College on Saturday afternoon. Tech honored its six-member senior class before the game, and it was the seniors that were the ones to shine in the close contest. Cawley Bromley finished with a career-high five points courtesy of four assists and a goal, while Megan Will also added five points (4g, 1a).
Boston College was the first to strike in the game, but the Hokies had an answer for nearly every goal. Seeming to head into the halftime break tied, Mary Kate O’Neill put away a late goal for the Eagles just before the half ended. The two teams traded goals in the second half until Boston College was able to go up by three, its largest lead of the day, and Tech was never able to get any closer that two goals after that point.
HOKIES IN OVERTIME
Tech is 5-1 all-time in overtime games following the victory at Michigan. The Hokies are 2-0 in overtime under Head Coach Megan Burker, with the other win coming in 2012 when Tech knocked off then-No. 7 Virginia at home.
IT’S HERS TO SET
Meg Bartley became Tech’s all-time career draw controls leader after winning the opening draw of the second session of overtime in Tech’s win at Michigan. Bartley finished the game with six draws, and currently has 272 in her career. The Lewes, Delaware, native also holds the single-season record after propelling herself to 90 with a career-high 10 in the final game of the 2014 season. Her 70 draws this season rank third on the single-season list.
RECORD WATCH
Megan Will is quickly climbing the all-time charts at Tech, chasing her cousin, Dawn Will, who sits atop the career goals and points lists. Megan currently ranks second with 165 career goals and 212 career points. She is also sixth all-time at Tech with 47 career assists.
Will is one of just two players to rank among the all-time top 10 in all three offensive categories (Allie Emala 08-11).
Meg Bartley, who holds the all-time draws record at Tech recently propelled herself onto the all-time scoring list, ranking ninth with 107 goals to date.
Meghan Macera joined Bartley on the all-time draws list, as she has won 126 so far, good for fifth.
