Tech travels to No. 7 Syracuse
Hokies return to conference play

The Hokies hit the road this weekend to return to conference play at No. 7 Syracuse. Tech is coming off of a 12-10 win over William & Mary on Sunday and is still in search of its first conference win of the year. Syracuse enters the weekend at 8-4 on the year and 6-1 at home. Kayla Treanor leads the offense with 30 goals on the season. The Orange are coming off a pair of road losses to top-10 teams, most recently falling at No. 6 Duke, 10-9.

THE SERIES

The Hokies have never topped Syracuse through five previous meetings. The two teams have only ever met as conference foes, and have never met in the post season. The first meeting in the series was in 2001, Tech’s first of four years in the BIG EAST. Syracuse has been ranked every time it has faced the Hokies and entered this week as the No. 7 team in the country. The Orange clamined last year’s meeting in Blacksburg, 18-4.

LAST TIME OUT

The Hokies remianed at home last week and went 1-1 through the pair of games. Tech fell to No. 3 North Carolina in its final midweek game of the season before holding on to knock off William & Mary, 12-10, on Sunday. Meg Bartley came up big for the Hokies against the Tribe, matching a career best with six goals in the game, including the 100th of her career.

Bartley got things started for the Hokies, scoring less than a minute into the game. Tech briefly lost its early lead before going on a 6-1 run to close out the first half and take an 8-4 lead into the halftime break. William & Mary slowly worked its way back into it, but the Hokies never let the Tribe get any closer than two goals for the rest of the game.

RISE AND SHINE

The Hokies will face off against Syracuse at 10 a.m. on Saturday, which will be the first morning game for the squad since joining the ACC in 2004-05. This will be the first of two games before noon for Tech this season, as it plays its regular reason finale at Navy at 11 a.m.

HEADED HOME

Eight Hokies are headed to their home state this weekend as Tech takes on Syracuse. Four of the New York residence hail from Long Island, while the other four are upstate natives.

The only state that more current Hokies call home is Maryland.

IT’S HERS TO SET

Meg Bartley became Tech’s all-time career draw controls leader after winning the opening draw of the second session of overtime in Tech’s win at Michigan. Bartley finished the game with six draws, and currently has 257 in her career. The Lewes, Delaware, native also holds the single-season record after propelling herself to 90 with a career-high 10 in the final game of the 2014 season.

RECORD WATCH

Megan Will is quickly climbing the all-time charts at Tech, chasing her cousin, Dawn Will, who sits atop the career goals and points lists. Megan currently ranks second with 159 career goals and 205 career points. She is also tied for sixth all-time at Tech with 46 career assists.

Will is one of just two players to rank among the all-time top 10 in all three offensive categories (Allie Emala 08-11).

Meg Bartley, who holds the all-time draws record at Tech recently propelled herself onto the all-time scoring list, ranking ninth with 104 goals to date.

Meghan Macera joined Bartley on the all-time draws list, as she has won 120 so far, good for sixth.
