THE SERIES

The Hokies have never beat Duke through the 17 all-time meetings. The two teams first met in 1997, and have matched up every season except two since then, including one post season meeting in the 2008 ACC Tournament. Tech is 0-9 on the road against the Blue Devils. Duke claimed last year’s game in Blacksburg, 14-6. Duke has been ranked in 14 of the 17 meetings. This will be the 10th all-time meeting in which the Blue Devils rank in the top five.

LAST TIME OUT

The Hokies are riding a three-game win streak into the start of ACC play, as they took down Old Dominion and Gardner-Webb over the weekend. Tech started things off with a 17-4 win over the Lady Monarchs on Friday afternoon. Meg Bartley had a big game, leading the Hokies with a season-best five goals. She also matched a career-high winning 10 draws.

On Sunday the Hokies rounded out the weekend with a 20-1 win over Gardner-Webb. Tech neared the first shutout in program history as 14 different players scored in the game that saw all available players hit the field. Tara Feehan led the Hokies with three goals.

AGAINST THE BEST

Being in the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Hokies play a number of the nation’s best teams and players on a weekly basis. Tech’s schedule includes nine teams that are currently ranked in the top 20. The Hokies begin conference play this week, traveling to No. 5 Duke.

RECORD WATCH

Megan Will is quickly climbing the all-time charts at Tech, chasing her cousin, Dawn Will, who sits atop the career goals and points lists. Megan currently ranks second with 143 career goals and third with 186 career points. She is also seventh all-time at Tech with 43 career assists.

Will is one of just three players to rank among the all-time top 10 in all three offensive categories (Allie Emala 08-11, Catherine Augustyn 96-99).

Meg Bartley set a new single-season draws record for the Hokies last season, winning 90 during her junior campaign. She is also working her way to the top of the all-time list (245), currently sitting in second with 234 draws to date. Meghan Macera recently joined Bartley on the all-time draws list, as she has won 101 so far, good for eighth.

LIMITING THE OPPONENT

The Hokies neared the first shutout in program history over the weekend as they held Gardner-Webb scoreless until there was under four minutes remaining in the game. Tech eventually won the game 20-1, marking just the second game ever that the Hokies have held their opponent to a single goal (at St. Bonaventure, 4/23/00).
