BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Virginia Tech head lacrosse coach Megan Burker has announced the signing of seven players to National Letters of Intent who will enroll at Tech in Fall of 2015. Zan Biedenharn, Alyssa Cox, Charlie Fix, Paige Murray, Kelci O’Donnell, Molly Wentz and Emily Wilson will make up the class of 2019 for the Hokies.
“We are thrilled to welcome this group to Virginia Tech Lacrosse,” Burker said. “This class is marked by their strong work ethic and conviction. I know they will make a big impact both on the field and off as our program builds to the next level.”
Biedenharn will become the second Vero Beach, Florida, native on the Tech roster, after earning three letters thus far at Vero Beach High School. The middie/attacker has helped her team to three state championships and was named to the US Lacrosse All-American first team as a junior. Biedenharn earned First Team All-District, All- League South and All-Area honors in each of the past two years, while also adding First Team All-Region accolades in 2014. She has also played club ball for Stickbenders since 2009.
Cox, a Westfield, New Jersey, native, has been a three-year starter at Westfield High School and will captain her team in her final season. The All-Conference defender was selected to represent New Jersey on the Elite Under Armour All-American Lacrosse team in the summer of 2014. Cox was named to the All-New Jersey All Star team by MSGVarsity.com, and was voted the site’s Player to Watch over the summer. Cox has played club ball for the BBL Elite Black team for the past three years.
Fix is the lone Virginian of the class, hailing from Alexandria, where she attended St. Stephens and St. Agnes. The goalie earned her first varsity letter a season ago, and helped her team to an ISL championship as well as the VISAA championship game as a junior. Fix has played three years of club ball for Capital Lacrosse.
Murray will join the Hokies after spending four years on varsity at Staples High School. The Westport, Connecticut, native was named her team’s Offensive Player of the Year as a junior and will serve as team captain for the second straight season as a senior. A three-year starter at attack/midfield, Murray was named to the All-State and All-FCIAC second teams as both a sophomore and junior. Murray played club for CT Grizzlies last year after spending four seasons with the CT Chargers.
O’Donnell, a Downington, Pennsylvania, native has won three letters so far at Bishop Shanahan High School. The senior captain was named team Offensive MVP as a junior. O’Donnell was named to the All-Area Offense and All-Chesmont first teams following her junior season. The middie was selected to play on the Under Armour All-American Underclass Team and was named an Academic All-American in 2014. O’Donnell played on US Lacrosse National Tournament Team Philly in 2013 and 2014, and played club for PA Express.
Wentz, a middie from West Chester, Pennsylvania, has logged two seasons as a starter for Unionville High School. She helped her team to the district tournament in each of those seasons, and finished second on her team in ground balls and assists. Wentz has played club for Spirit Select Lacrosse since 2009, helping her team to the National Tournament championship in 2013.
Wilson hails from Pittsford, New York, and has spent three years on the varsity team at Pittsford Sutherland High School. She will captain her squad as a senior and was name to the All-County second team as a junior. Wilson has spent the last six years playing club for Lady Roc.
