NEWTON, Mass. – The Virginia Tech lacrosse team was unable to get past No. 6 Boston College, falling 20-9 Saturday afternoon. Junior Megan Will and redshirt senior Julia Heaps led the Hokie offense with three goals apiece, while Mikaela Rix paced the Eagles with five scores.

The Hokies (7-7, 0-5 ACC) got out to a slow start, as Boston College (11-4, 4-2 ACC) won the first four draws of the game and was able to capitalize every time. Stanwick put away two in the scoring string, but freshman Kristine Loscalzo checked in for Tech and made a difference on the draw right away. She won the first one she was in on, which allowed the Hokies their first opportunity to truly set up their offense.

Heaps got Tech on the board when she attacked from behind the cage and rolled in the team’s first goal of the day nearing the midway point in the half. The Hokies kept the momentum as they won the next draw and Will juked her way through the middle of Boston College’s defense for an up-close goal to make it a 4-2 game.

The Eagles added five more goals before the end of the half, including two from Moira Barry and another from Covie Stanwick with .01 seconds on the clock. Tech trailed 9-2 at the half and was outshot 19-5.

The Hokies began the second half much more aggressive than the first on both ends of the field. Will sparked the offense early with back-to-back goals in a two-minute span. Senior Kelly Naslonski made it three straight scores for Tech when she scored her first of the day from the right side, just under ten minutes into the new half.

Rix had a quick response for the Eagles following the Naslonski goal and assisted another to help Boston College keep the Hokies at a distance. The Hokies refused to back down as junior Jack Boissonneault kept the scoring surge going for Tech. Sophomore Gracee Hendrix made it a 12-7 game when she was relayed the draw and fired in a shot.

The Eagles attempted to stall with under 15 minutes left in the game but eventually continued to attack and added eight more goals before the game’s end. Heaps tacked on two more for the Hokies with under six minutes left to play.

Boston College finished the game outshooting Tech 35-14 and took the draws advantage, 19-11.

Meagh Graham suffered the loss for the Hokies but made six saves in the game. Emily Mata played the full 60 minutes in cage for the Eagles and made three saves.

Tech returns to action Wednesday, April 16 to host in-state rival Virginia in the final home game of the season at 6 p.m.
