Notes: The Hokies have never lost to Liberty through three all-time meetings ... The two teams have met in each of the last three seasons, with Tech claiming a 15-6 road win a year ago ... Megan Will put away five goals and assisted another in the game, while Julia Heaps added two goals and two assists.

Scouting Liberty

The Flames enter the midweek game at 1-8 on the year and 0-6 on the road. The trip to Blacksburg will mark their third straight road contest. Liberty most recently fell at Robert Morris, 10-9, and claimed its only victory of the season against Elon, 13-9.

Sam Struss leads the Flames with 22 goals on the year, while Morgan Becker has been the team’s go-to on the draw, winning 29. Nina Dunay had been dominant in the midfield for Liberty, scoring 14 goals, while also adding 17 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers.

In goal for the Flames has been Kristen Masullo. She holds the team’s 1-8 record and has made 86 saves this year, good for a .434 save percentage.

Hokie Notes

-- Junior Megan Will broke onto Tech’s all-time scoring list with four goals against Coastal Carolina and the points list with three goals at No. 1 North Carolina. She scored the 100th goal of her career at Old Dominion.

-- Junior Cawley Bromley had a career game at William & Mary, scoring three goals and finishing with four points and made it back-to-back four-point games against Coastal.

-- Against No. 6 Duke, the Hokie defense forced the Blue Devils into a season-high 18 turnovers with their average of 10 coming in the first half, also holding them to a season-low four first-half goals.

-- Entering the week, two Hokies rank among the top 30 in the nation in their respective categories. Junior Meg Bartley ranks the highest of the pair, tied for 13th in the country averaging 5.27 draws per game.

-- Redshirt senior Julia Heaps set a career high with five goals and seven points in the season opener at James Madison.

-- Redshirt senior Julia Heaps became the second Hokie on the 2014 roster to rank among the all-time best as her three assists against High Point broke her onto the list.

-- Junior Meg Bartley is the only player to have scored in every game so far this season.

-- In this week’s polls, seven of Tech’s opponents are ranked nationally, with another receiving votes.

-- Seniors Julia Heaps, Kelly Naslonski, Lindsay Roche and Becca Niles captain the Hokies this season.

-- Tech welcomed 10 freshmen this season, as well as two new assistant coaches.

Last Time Out

The Hokies battled on the road last week, falling at No. 1 North Carolina in the midweek but they hung on to beat Old Dominion, 18-17, to close out the week. Tech got out to a hot start against the Lady Monarchs, going up 5-1 in the opening minutes of play. Meghan Macera won the opening draw for the Hokies and took it straight to the goal for the early lead. Although Old Dominion tied things up moments later, Kelly Naslonski bookended a four-goal run that created some distance for Tech.

Old Dominion slowly worked its way back into it, down just a goal at the break. The second half saw five ties, but the Hokies never trailed in the game. With just over four minutes to play Cawley Bromley put away a pass from Naslonski to give Tech the late lead and the Hokies won the ensuing draw to remain with possession. A turnover in the final minutes seemed costly, but Macera was able to track it down before it got to Tech’s defensive end to save the possession and the game.

Megan Will’s first goal of the game was the 100th of her career and she finished with four as well as an assist. Naslonski also finished with five points, scoring three goals and assisting two more.

The Nation’s Elite

Entering the week of play, two Hokies rank among the top players in the nation in their respective categories. Junior Meg Bartley boasts the highest ranking, as she is 13th with a 5.27 draws average. Junior Megan Will is tied for 14th in the country with 47 points so far this year, while also ranking 21st with 4.27 points per game and 31 goals.

Record Watch

Junior Meg Bartley has already broken into the all-time top 10, and ranks third with 170 career draws. She has also made her second notch on the single-seasons draw list, ranking second with 69 last year.

Redshirt senior Julia Heaps broke into the all-time assists list against High Point earlier this year. She currently ranks sixth all-time with 43.

Junior Megan Will’s 42 goals last season landed her on the single-season scoring list, ranking seventh. She broke into the all-time career scoring list against Coastal Carolina and is currently 8th all-time with 103 career goals and 9th with 138 career points. Will needs just three asssits to crack the top-10.
