Hokies announce captains for 2014 season
Tech's four seniors will lead the squad

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech women’s lacrosse team and head coach Megan Burker have announced team captains for upcoming the 2014 season. Seniors Julia Heaps, Kelly Naslonski, Becca Niles and Lindsay Roche have been named captains for their final season at Hokies.

The quartet has combined to play in 136 games, making 45 starts throughout it’s time at Tech. Led on the attack by Naslonski and Heaps, the group has scored 69 goals and assisted 48 more, totaling 117 points thus far. On the defensive side of the field, the four players have grabbed 55 ground balls and caused 17 turnovers, also winning 38 draws.

Heaps, Naslonksi, Niles and Roche helped the Hokies to back-to-back winning seasons in 2011 and 2012, as well as the best home record, 7-2, in program history in 2012. The captains we a part of Tech’s best ACC finish in 2011, while also knocking off ranked conference opponents in consecutive seasons.

The Hokies will begin preseason on Tuesday, Jan. 14 as they do things a little different this year and head to Charleston, S.C., for a five-day mini-camp. Away from home for the first time to kick off preseason, Tech will practice daily at The Citadel. Throughout the trip the Hokies will prepare for the season, while also taking part in some team building and goal-setting activities.
