BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech athletic department and head lacrosse coach Megan Burker have announced the hiring of new assistant coach Danielle Etrasco. Etrasco rounds out the new staff as she joins Burker and recent hire, Liz Hogan. She joins the Hokies after recently wrapping up a successful playing career at Boston University in the spring.
“I am thrilled to have Danielle join our staff,” Burker said. “Her playing experience at the World Cup, along with her leadership experience at Boston University have prepared her to enter the coaching ranks and make an immediate impact on our program.”
Etrasco left a lasting mark at BU as she finished her career second on the all-time scoring (192) and points (248) lists. The Massapequa, N.Y., native also ranks tenth in all-time assists (56), and is tied for third on the draws list with 157. She was named an IWLCA third team All-American as a junior, while also boasting IWLCA Northeast All-Region and America East All-Conference First Team honors in each of the past three seasons. The two-time team captain was also named America East Player of the Year in 2011.
A member of the US National team since 2011, Etrasco traveled to Canada this summer as a member of the US World Cup squad, helping the team to goal medal at the FIL World Cup.
Earning her degree in hospitality administration this past spring, Etrasco has served as a coach for Long Island Liberty Lacrosse, creating practice plans and implementing game strategy for the club squad. She has also handled coaching and teaching duties at Around the Crease camps.
