DAVIS, Calif. – The Virginia Tech lacrosse team bounced back in a big way, topping UC Davis, 16-7, Tuesday evening at Aggie Stadium on the Davis campus. Sophomore Megan Will was red hot in the game, leading the Hokies with six goals on seven shots. Elli Delich led the Aggies with four goals in the game.

The Hokie (4-4) defense highlighted the opening minutes of play in the game as Davis (1-5) was on the attack, but Tech did not allow the Aggies to get a good look at any point in the lengthy possession. The defense knocked the ball away numerous times and finally forced a turnover, drawing a charge.

On the other end, Will got Tech on the board first with a free position goal about eight minutes into the game. Will finished the first half with three goals, all coming on free positions.

Meghan Macera added another score for the Hokies when she put away a pass from Julia Heaps less than a minute later, before Elizabeth Landry was able to get an open look and get Davis on the board.

The Hokies closed out the first half on a six-goal run after the midway point in the half to enter the break with a 10-3 lead. Tech went on to outshoot the Aggies 16-6 in the opening session.

Will again started things off for the Hokies in the second half, less than a minute and a half into the new period. Meg Bartley tacked on another goal as she cut towards the goal and Kelly Naslonski found her from behind the cage.

Davis’ Elli Delich tried to get things going as she helped the Aggies to a 3-1 run with a pair of scores, but a big save from Tech goalie Alex Gale on a free position and an 8-meter goal from Bartley ended the brief Hokie drought.

The Hokies outshot Davis 28-15 in the game and also took the 14-11 edge on the draw. Bartley led the Hokies winning six draws in the game. Martin and Bartley finished the game with four goals each, while Naslonski tallied three assists.

Gale earned the victory and made five saves in the game, while Davis’ Kai Murphy earned the loss in 32 minutes of play and made four saves. Jordan Majka played 27 minutes in cage for the Aggies and made three stops.

Tech will continue play on the West Coast this weekend as it wraps up Spring Break at California. The game against the Bears is set for 4 p.m. Pacific Time.
