Scouting High Point
High Point will begin its 2013 season hosting Tech on Friday and is coming off of back-to-back 15-4 seasons. This is the first season the Big South Conference has supported lacrosse, and the Panthers were voted preseason No. 1 in the new league.
With most of the squad intact from last season, the Panthers will look to 2012 National Lacrosse Conference Player of the Year Mackenzie Carroll and 2011 NCL POY Grace Gaeng to lead the offense. Carroll finished last season with 71 points (33g, 38a), while Gaeng tallied 67 points (30g, 37a).
In cage for the High Point will be senior Anna Wallingford, who finished 2012 with a 14-4 record and a .413 save percentage.

Scouting Virginia Tech - Last Time Out
The Hokies are coming off a 17-9 loss in the season opener at No. 7 Duke. Senior middie Brooke Martin tallied a hat trick in the first game of the season, while sophomore Megan Will added two goals and an assist. Sophomore Meg Bartley matched a career high, winning six draws.
Despite the outcome, the Tech defense came up big against the Blue Devils, not allowing them to score in the first 15 minutes of the second half and coming up with numerous stops. Hokie goalie Alex Gale finished the game with 12 saves.
Two newcomers, Jessi Thon and Meghan Macera, made their first career starts in the game and saw significant playing time against the ranked conference opponent.
The game at High Point comes after the Hokies have had a week off and is the second of four season-opening road games for Tech. The Hokies will have their first midweek game of the season next week as they head to Davidson to take on another Big South opponent, before making the treck to Coastal Carolina the following Saturday.

Progressing Program
The Virginia Tech lacrosse team has seen a steady momentum shift over the past few seasons. Since former assistant Megan Burker took over as head coach the Hokies have put together back-to-back 10-win seasons for the first time in program history while also knocking off ranked conference opponenets in back-to-back years. Tech earned its best ACC finish in 2011 when a tiebreak awarded the Hokies the three-seed in the annual ACC Tournament. Tech also set a new program best in 2012 when it finished the year with a 7-2 record at Thompson Field.

Right Back to Business
Senior Brooke Martin returns great experience to the Hokie attack and midfield this year. She has played in every game since arriving on campus. After finishing her junior season as the third-leading scorer on the team, Martin has gone straight to work in 2013. She put away three goals in the opener a week ago at Duke.
The Hunt Valley, Md., native matched the seventh-most goals scored in a game all-time at Tech when she put away six against High Point in 2012.

Bartley, an Unexpected Surprise
Sophomore Meg Bartley walked on to the Tech lacrosse team in the Fall of 2011 and as the 2012 season began she made a quick and efficient impact. The Lewes, Del., native earned a starting job on attack by the fifth game, after scoring four goals and assisting another against UC Davis at home.
Bartley will again be threat on the draw for the Hokies as she matched a career high, winning six, at Duke a week ago.
