GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Virginia Tech lacrosse team placed six student-athletes on the 2012 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Team, as announced by the league office Wednesday afternoon. Jessica Nonn leads the way for the Hokies as she earns a spot on the conference’s academic squad for the third straight season, while Ryan Rotanz and Brooke Martin garner the accolade for the second time in their respective careers. Honored for the first time were Charlotte Marsh, Libby Rosebro and Megan Will.

Maryland’s Katie Schwarzmann was named the ACC Women’s Lacrosse Scholar Athlete of the Year, while Duke led all six conference teams with seven student-athletes honored.

Nonn, a Catonsville, Md., native finished her final season as a Hokie leading the team in every statistical category with 32 goals, 43 points, 29 ground balls, 52 draws and 21 caused turnover. After starting every game of her career, the psychology major wrapped up her time as a Hokie ranking in the top three all-time at Tech in goals, points, ground balls, draw controls and caused turnovers. Already this postseason, Nonn has earned All-ACC and All-South Region honors.

Rotanz was a three-year starter for the Hokies and started all 17 games in her final season. A consistent contributor for her team, the human development major tallied 22 goals, 10 assists and 32 points in her senior season. A Salem, Va., native, Rotanz was recently honored with the YRL Unsung Heros Award which given annually to one male and female ACC lacrosse player for his/her dedication to leadership, community service, and being a positive role model on and off the field.

Martin, a Hunt Valley, Md., native, returned to the attack for the Hokies this season, as well as to her starting role. Starting 14 of the 17 games this year, the communications major totaled 23 goals, five assists and 28 points in her junior season. Martin’s best performance of 2012 came when she put away six goals and assisted another early in the season against High Point.

Marsh made the move to defense this season and earned herself a starting role for her junior year. The biology major and Reading, Mass., native started 15 of the 17 games this year and was an instrumental part of the defensive unit. Marsh grabbed 16 ground balls, won ten draws and caused five turnovers in 2012, while also making her one goal this season a memorable one when she went coast-to-coast to bury a big shot against American.

Rosebro wrapped up her second year as a starter after returning to the midfield from the defense this season. The studio art major was a balanced contributor for the Hokies this season, tallying 12 goals and nine assists, while also grabbing 17 ground balls and causing ten turnovers. The Richmond, Va., native was also honored with the team’s strength and conditioning award this year.

Will had a stellar freshman season for the Hokies, starting 15 of the team’s 17 games and scoring in all but three games. The Bel Air, Md., native impressed this season with 30 goals, seven assists and 37 points in her debut. Will, a human development major, is one of just four freshmen to earn a spot on the academic team and was the only freshman to be honored as part of the All-ACC Tournament team after putting away three goals against Maryland.
