GREENSBORO, N.C. – With the conclusion of regular season conference play Saturday afternoon, the Atlantic Coast Conference has announced the seeding for the upcoming ACC Tournament. Tech has been tabbed as the sixth seed in this year’s tournament and will face third-seeded Maryland on Friday, April 20 at 2 p.m.
The North Carolina Tar Heels earned the top spot in this year’s tournament with a perfect 5-0 record in conference this season, while host-team Duke earned the No. 2 seed. Both squads will receive first-round byes and will not play until Saturday afternoon.
Finishing fourth in the ACC was Virginia with a 2-3 record. The Cavaliers will face the fifth seed Boston College, who finished at 1-4, at noon on Friday.
The winner of the Virginia/ Boston College game will go on to play North Carolina at 1 p.m. on Saturday, while the victor in the Maryland/ Virginia Tech game will face Duke at 3 p.m. The championship game is scheduled for Monday, April 23 at 7 p.m. The game will air on ESPNU.
The Hokies and Terps have never matched up in the post season, and have played just one game, in 2003, outside of the annual Atlantic Coast Conference slate.
