BLACKSBURG, Va. – Senior Jessica Nonn was named the Womenslax.com Player of the Week this week after her outstanding performance in the team’s win over No. 7 Virginia on Saturday. Tech defeated the Cavaliers 10-9 in overtime this past weekend to earn its first ever win over the in-state rival, as well as over a top-10 team.
Nonn scored the final three goals of the game for the Hokies, and four on the day, tying things at 8-8 with 5:28 remaining and later putting away the go-ahead goal inside two minutes to play. Virginia forced overtime and won the opening draw but couldn’t score in the first three minutes. Tech got the ball back after the two teams switched ends halfway through the period and Nonn was able to weave through the Virginia defenders and put the ball in to again put the Hokies up.
The Catonsville, Md., native leads the Hokies in every statistical category, most notably scoring (26), draws (44), and caused turnovers (17). She has paced the offense in four games this year and scored in 12 of the 13 games so far this season.
