BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association has released its annual academic honor roll and Tech’s Allie Emala and Liz Carpenter were next to the list for their academic performance over the past year. The IWLCA honored 187 student-athletes from 65 different schools in the 2011 Division I list.
Emala recently graduated from Tech with a degree in human development. The Baltimore, Md., native left Tech as the all-time draw controls leader (248) and wrapped up her collegiate career in the midst of a 22-game scoring streak that dated back to her junior season. Emala, who was also a four-time All-ACC Academic team honoree, led the squad in her senior season with 43 goals, 59 points, four game-winning goals and 60 draws. As one of the most accomplished players in Tech history, Emala also ranks second in Tech’s all-time record books with 187 career points and 138 career goals.
Carpenter missed the 2011 season due to injury but will return for her final season after being named team MVP as a junior. In her third season, the biology major tallied 10 goals and 13 points, while also scooping up 19 ground balls. Carpenter was named a team captain for the 2011 season and the midfielder will look to carry that leadership into her senior season.
