BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech athletic department and head lacrosse coach Megan Burker have announced the hiring of new assistant coach Sarah Jonson. Jonson joins the Hokies after an impressive four-year playing career at William & Mary.
“I am very excited to have Sarah join our staff this year,” Burker said of her first-year assistant. “She brings great enthusiasm and creativity to her coaching philosophy and I expect her to add a new dimension of success to our program.”
This will be the first collegiate coaching job for the recent college graduate, who wrapped up her career as the all-time caused turnovers leader in William & Mary history (134). Jonson was a two-time Tewaarton Award nominee, while also earning IWLCA All-America and CAA Defensive Player of the Year honors twice in her career.
Jonson does bring coaching and instructional experience to the Hokies as she has coached at the annual William & Mary camps, also holding a clinic in her hometown and giving private instructional lessons as well.
Jonson, a native of Dallas, Texas, graduated from William & Mary in May 2011, with a BBA in marketing.
