BLACKSBURG, Va. – Senior attack Allie Emala and head coach Megan Burker will represent the Virginia Tech lacrosse team at the IWLCA North-South game as Emala will be playing in the senior-showcase and Burker will be coaching the South Squad.
A total of 109 student-athletes were selected from Divisions I, II and III to participate in their respective games at the 2011 North-South outing, which will take place at the Champions' Cup, held at the United Sports Training Center in Downingtown, Pa., on June 11.
Emala and Burker, both Baltimore, Md., natives and Bryn Mawr graduates, were part of Tech’s best season since 1999 as the team began the year an impressive 4-0 and finished the season with a 10-8 record, its first winning record in 11 years.
Burker recently saw her interim tag lifted after such a successful head coaching debut, which also included the team’s second-ever ACC victory and first win over a ranked opponent since joining the conference in 2005.
Emala led the Hokies in scoring in her final season after tallying 43 goals on the year. The two-year team captain also paced the squad in points (59) and draw controls (60) in 2011. Emala leaves Tech as the all-time draws leader in program history with 248 to her name, while also ranking second all-time in career points (187) and goals (138).
