BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech Director of Athletics Jim Weaver announced Wednesday that the interim tag on head women’s lacrosse coach Megan Burker has been lifted and Burker will remain at Virginia Tech in her same head coaching position.
“I am pleased with the leadership provided by Megan this past year and feel as though she has earned the role of head women’s lacrosse coach,” Weaver said.
After spending five seasons as an assistant at Tech, Burker assumed the head role after former coach Katrina Silva left last July to pursue business opportunities outside of coaching. Burker oversaw a team that established its first winning season in 11 years and fifth all time, while also earning its first victory over a ranked opponent since joining the ACC in 2005 when it defeated then-No. 16 Boston College during the regular season.
The team’s 10-8 overall record was its best in 12 years and is second only to the program’s most successful season when the team went 11-6 in 1999. Burker and her newly assembled staff also saw great individual improvements this season, as three players placed themselves in the all-time record books at Tech and senior Allie Emala became the third player since 2005 to earn All-ACC honors.
