CARY, N.C. - The Boston College Eagles had Virginia Tech’s number the second time around this season as the Hokie lacrosse team fell,17-3, in the first round of the ACC Tournament, held this year at WakeMed Park. The Eagles avenged the road loss from earlier this season and turned the tables on Tech in every aspect of the game. BC’s margin of victory in the game is the largest ever between the two teams and in an ACC Tournament game.

A dominant, five-goal performance from BC’s Kristin Igoe paced the Eagles’ offense, while seniors Allie Emala and Caitlyn Wier provided all of the offense for the Hokies in their final game, tallying three goals and two assists, respectively.

Tech (10-8, 1-4 ACC) got out to a slow start but hung with the Eagles (11-5, 1-4 ACC) in the first ten minutes of the game. BC was the first on the board as Moira Barry and Brittany Wilton each buried goals to establish an early two-goal lead.

Two goals by Emala in the eighth minute kept it a one-goal game as she teamed up with Wier for both on their signature give-and-go play from behind the goal, but Brooke Blue sparked a five-goal tear for the Eagles that spanned over the next ten minutes.

Emala ended the run with just under four minutes to go in the first half, as she crashed to the cage on a fast break and slipped the ball through the goalie’s legs to make it 8-3.

The Eagles put away one more goal before the halftime break to head into the locker room with a 9-3 lead, the exact opposite of the halftime score in Blacksburg earlier this season.

BC carried the late momentum into the second half as Igoe alone scored the team’s first four goals of the half including the first just 27 second into the new period.

The Hokies were unable to find the back of the goal in the second half, and took just six shots. The team was outshot 27-16 in the game.

Sophomore Alex Gale got the start in goal for the Hokies and finished the evening with five saves, while Sheila Serafino manned the cage for the Eagles and finished the game with eight saves.

The game wraps up one of the best seasons in program history as the Hokies made it just the second ever double-digit win season and the fifth winning season. Tech’s five points in the game upped the year’s total to 304 which sets a new single-season total points record, passing the previous record of 303 points that was set in 2000.
