GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Virginia Tech lacrosse team has earned the No. 5 seed in this year’s ACC Tournament and will face fourth-seeded Boston College on Thursday, April 21 at 5 p.m., in the first round of the conference tournament. This year’s championship is being held at WakeMed Park, in Cary, N.C.
Maryland, who has not lost a game since the end of the 2010 regular season, earned the top spot in the tournament with a perfect 5-0 record in league play.
The Hokies finished ACC play with a 1-4 record, which tied them for fourth in the league with Boston College and Virginia. The Eagles pulled out with the No. 4 seed following the league’s seeding tie-breaker procedures. All three teams finished 1-1 against each other and all fell at the hands of conference opponents Maryland, Duke and North Carolina. Thus, the ties were ultimately determined by goal differentials, including a maximum positive-five for any one game.
Maryland, along with No. 2 Duke, earned a first-round bye in the tournament and will not play until Friday. Rounding out the first day of action will be No. 3 North Carolina, who will take on No. 6 Virginia following the Tech game at 7 p.m.
Tech’s only conference win of the year came against Boston College when the Hokies defeated the Eagles, 12-11, in Blacksburg. This was Tech’s second-ever conference win and the second time in league play the team has claimed victory over the Eagles at home.
