Gearing up for our first game against Duke, our practices have been focused on our preparedness to beat such a big in-conference opponent. We have never started our season with such a huge game. It would be amazing to start the season off with a huge win over a top-20 team!
Earlier in the week, we polished our game plan and scrimmaged a lot. After three weeks of playing against only your own teammates, I think we are all ready to score some goals against other people. It has been a quicker preseason than in years past because school got off to a late start, but we have packed in a lot of work. Our stick skills, offensive plays, defensive positions and transition tactics have been drilled into our heads and we are ready to use what we know.
Wednesday morning we woke up bright and early to gather in the locker room to go over scout for the Duke game. We went over their players and game plan and now in these past two days we practiced how to make our plan more successful. Scouting meetings make us feel like we are finally in season. It reminds us why we are here and what our job is: We are here to win.
Today we are leave early and will practice at Duke once we get there. After a pregame meal, we will head out to the field once more for warm up and the game. This will be the first of four away games that start our season. I am so excited to come together as a team and show off all that we have been working on in these past three weeks! We are excited and ready to show off what VT LAX is all about.
