MI SS I ON STATEMENT
The Office of Student-Athlete Development is committed to
ensuring a first-class student-athlete experience. With a holistic
focus on leadership development, career development and a
commitment to community outreach, Virginia Tech student-
athletes are provided with a foundation for success at the
university level and beyond.
Inspired by the NCAA Student-Athlete Affairs commitment areas,
the Athletics Office of Student-Athlete Development creates
programs designed to enhance student-athletes in these areas.

Since 2011, Hokie student-athletes have had the opportunity to participate in a study aboard
course focused on sport and international development. Over the years, the course has worked
with NGOs in the Dominican Republic, visited the United Nations and International Olympic
Committee in Switzerland, and most recently, partnered with a K-12 school in Kigali, Rwanda.
A study abroad course entitled Sport, Policy & Society took this group of student-athletes and
their advisors to the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland.

We believe we’ve been afforded a tremendous opportunity
to assist Virginia Tech student-athletes in their growth as
leaders. Our intent is to help student-athletes identify ways
they can thrive as leaders, students and competitors.
The Office of Student-Athlete Development is committed to
educating student-athletes on the proficiencies and strategies
necessary to develop career success during their time at
Virginia Tech and beyond. The Career Game Plan provides
student-athletes with insight into unique aspects of career
development throughout their tenure at Virginia Tech and
offers stepping stones on their path to post graduate success.
With the university motto, Ut Prosim, (That I May Serve) at
our core, the Office of Student-Athlete Development assists
student-athletes in taking advantage of the many opportunities
to volunteer throughout their college experience. Teams
partner with national and local community organizations and
volunteer their time at community-wide events.
