1995 SUGAR BOWL

V I CTORY OVER TEXAS

The Hokies closed their finest season in their 103-year

football history with an improbable 10-game winning streak

that came on the heels of an ugly 0-2 start. Despite that

streak and a co-BIG EAST championship, many questioned

whether Tech, 2-8-1 just four years ago, belonged in a

major bowl. There should be no questions after Sunday’s

dominant defensive performance.

COLLEGE GAMEDAY

V I S I TS FOR

THE F I RST T IME

Tech fans certainly got excited over the

arrival of Chris Fowler, Kirk Herbstreit and

the infamous Lee Corso—the trio who made

up College Gameday. Between 12,000-

13,000 fans packed the press box side of

Lane Stadium just to yell and scream and be

on television.

“FRANK BEAMER HAS BEEN ONE OF THE ICONS,

IN MY MIND, IN THIS ERA OF COACHING. HE

HAS A FANTASTIC RECORD AT VIRGINIA TECH

AND BEEN THERE A LONG, LONG TIME. HE’S ONE

OF THE GREAT GUYS IN OUR PROFESSION. I’VE

ALWAYS ADMIRED HIM AS A COACH, BUT ALSO

THE PROFESSIONAL CHARACTER THAT HE ALWAYS

CARRIES HIMSELF WITH AND THE WAY HE TREATS

OTHER PEOPLE.”

- ALABAMA HEAD COACH NICK SABAN

“FRANK BEAMER IS, HAS BEEN AND WILL REMAIN

A BEACON OF LIGHT FOR COLLEGE FOOTBALL.

NOT ONLY A GREAT CAREER AT VIRGINIA TECH,

BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, A TREMENDOUS

LEADER AND MODEL FOR THE YOUNG MEN IN

HIS PROGRAM AND HIS PERSONAL FAMILY. HE

HAS GUIDED SO MANY TO BECOME SUCCESSFUL

IN LIFE THROUGH A VALUE SYSTEM MUCH

NEEDED TO TODAY’S SOCIETY. A SINCERE AND

CARING FAMILY MAN, FRANK HAS BROUGHT THAT

FEELING TO THE ENTIRETY OF HIS UNIVERSITY.”

- KANSAS STATE HEAD COACH BILL SNYDER
