BLACKSBURG, Va. – Out of 330 women's teams that started the 2014 cross country season with the goal of winning a national championship, only 31 have the possibility to obtain that goal and will compete at the 2014 NCAA DI Cross Country Championships. The Virginia Tech women's cross country team is one of those 31 teams.
At the NCAA Southeast Regional, the Hokies were three points short of upsetting No. 11 and ACC Champion North Carolina. It was this performance and their performances throughout the season that allowed Tech to be one of the 13 teams to receive an at-large bid to the meet. This will be the Hokies’ second-ever appearance at the championships, with their last appearance being in 2006.
The process for selection involves a review of regular-season competition and finish at the regional championships. Eight total teams from the ACC, the most representation of any conference in the NCAA, will be represented at national meet.
The women’s team will compete at the NCAA DI Cross Country Championships a week from today on Saturday, Nov. 22 in Terre Haute, Indiana.
