Hokies set to compete at NCAA Southeast Regional
Tech looks to qualify for nationals

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Both the Virginia Tech men’s and women’s cross country teams will look to make a statement at the 2014 Southeast Cross Country Regional to earn the opportunity to run at the national meet.

The race will feature 37 teams on the men's side and 40 on the women's from the states of Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia, totaling over 600 athletes. The men's field includes four teams ranked in the latest USTFCCCA poll, including No. 16 Furman, No. 18 NC State, No. 22 North Carolina and No. 28 Virginia. The women's field features three ranked teams, including No. 11 North Carolina, No. 14 Virginia and No. 18 NC State.

The top-two teams in each the men’s and women’s races automatically qualify for the 2014 NCAA Cross Country Championships. In addition, the top four individual runners outside of the top-two teams on each side also receive bids to nationals. At-large bids are given to individuals as well as teams in the days following the regionals.

Last season, Sarah Rapp and Thomas Curtin both qualified for nationals coming out of the regional. Curtin finished in the top four at regionals while Rapp received an at-large bid to compete in the meet.
