CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Coming off of an ACC meet that saw the men finish fifth and the women finish eighth, the Virginia Tech men’s and women’s cross country teams head to the University of Virginia to compete in the 2013 NCAA Cross Country Southeast Regional.
Junior Thomas Curtin led Tech in the ACC meet with a 2nd place finish overall in the men’s 8K race. Senior Leoule Degfae finished next for the Hokies with a time of 24:42.20 good for a 23rd place finish overall.
In the women’s 6K race, junior Courtney Dobbs led all Tech runners with an 11th place finish and a time of 20:49.90. Junior Sarah Rapp was not far behind with a 13th place finish and a time of 20:51.60.
Thomas Curtin, Courtney Dobbs and Sarah Rapp all received All-ACC honors for their performance at the meet.
At the Southeast Region Championships, the men's 10K race is scheduled for noon and will be followed by the women's 6k race at 1:15 p.m. Admission is free. Live results will be available on VirginiaSports.com.
The top-two teams and top-four individuals at each of the nine regional meets will automatically advance to the NCAA Championships to be held in Terre Haute, Ind., on Saturday, Nov. 23. Thirteen teams will also earn at-large bids, to be announced on Saturday, Nov. 16.
