Hokies garner national academic honor for sixth consecutive year

USTFCCCA Women's Cross Country All-Academic Teams

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Virginia Tech women’s cross country team was one of 205 Division I institutions to be named as an All-Academic team for the 2011 cross country season by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Monday. The Hokie women have earned the honor every year since 2006.

To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, a team must have a cumulative GPA higher than a 3.00 and have started at least five student-athletes at their respective NCAA regional championship. Tech’s squad came in with a cumulative GPA of 3.41. The Hokie women had the third highest team GPA among the 10 ACC teams honored.

In 2011, the Hokies took sixth at the NCAA Southeast Regional Meet, where sophomore Madalyn Nuckols led the team and earned All-Region honors with a 23rd place finish. At the ACC Championship, Tech placed eighth as sophomore Taylor Crosson finished a team-best 26th. The Hokies also won the team title at the Charlotte Invitational.
