BLACKSBURG, Va. – Sophomore Sammy Dow earned ACC Women’s Performer of the Week the league announced on Tuesday, after setting a new course record and winning the Hokie Open on Friday.
Dow finished first in the 21-runner, 4,000-meter race at the Tech Cross Country Course. The Midlothian, Va., native clocked a 14:24.3 time, breaking the former record of 14:24.5, set by Marlies Overbeeke in 2002. This is the first ACC honor won by a Hokie runner this year, and the first of Dow’s career.
The Hokie cross country squads will travel to Louisville, Ky., on Saturday for the NCAA Southeast Regional. The men’s 10,000-meter race is set to kick off at 10 a.m., followed by the women’s 6,000-meter race at 11:15 a.m. Results will be available on hokiesports.com following the conclusion of the meet.
