GIVING BACK AT BELK BOWL & MORE

The Hokies embrace Virginia Tech’s spirit of Ut Prosim on a year-round basis. During the 2016-17 academic year, members of the football team

participated in 240 hours of community service activities. In November, the team packed small toys, school supplies and toiletries into shoeboxes

as part of Operation Christmas Child. Samaritan’s Purse, a faith-based relief organization, sponsors the initiative and ships the shoeboxes to

underprivileged children all over the world.

Throughout the year, the Hokies are frequent visitors to local elementary schools and can frequently be found supporting local law enforcement

efforts and hosting a variety of special guests at practice and home events.

During the team’s stay in Charlotte for the Belk Bowl, members of the squad traveled to the Second Harvest Food Bank to help unpack supplies

for those in need. In addition, a group of 23 players, head coach Justin Fuente and defensive coordinator Bud Foster visited the Levine Children’s

Hospital. The group handed out miniature footballs, signed autographs, posed for photographs and sang karaoke to the lyrics of the likes of Taylor

Swift and Justin Bieber, but it was a rousing version of “Let It Go” from the Frozen soundtrack that truly made the visit a party.
