Dedicated to its motto, Ut Prosim (That I May Serve), Virginia Tech takes

a hands-on, minds-on approach to education, preparing scholars to be

leaders in their fields and communities. Since its founding as a land-grant

college in 1872, Virginia Tech has grown to an enrollment of about 33,000.

With a strong presence in the National Capital Region, Roanoke, and

on the main campus in Blacksburg, Virginia, as well as an international

campus in Europe, Virginia Tech offers the widest range of degree

choices in Virginia and is the state’s leading research institution. Tech

offers approximately 250 undergraduate and graduate degree programs

and $504 million in research expenditures each year. The university’s

undergraduate colleges are the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences,

College of Architecture andUrban Studies, College of Engineering, College

of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences, College of Natural Resources and

Environment, College of Science, and the Pamplin College of Business.

At the postgraduate level is the Graduate School, the Virginia-Maryland

College of Veterinary Medicine, and the Virginia Tech Carilion School of

Medicine, a public-private partnership with Carilion Clinic in Roanoke.

Through defined Destination Areas and Strategic Growth Areas,

Tech scholars seek to address complex global challenges. First, we look

outside Virginia Tech and into the future for difficult problems of national

and global importance. Then, we invest resources to build and support

world-class groups of faculty that transcend our disciplinary strengths.

Destination Areas create the agile and vibrant environment that makes

Virginia Tech the “destination” for the people and resources we need to

make a difference. Taking students to the next level by helping them solve

real-world problems, Tech professors have a reputation for imagining the

next great thing – from blind-driver cars to energy-conscious homes –

and then making it happen. Faculty members and students, including

undergraduates, are involved in research projects in fields ranging from

biotechnology to urban planning.

Virginia Tech’s Moss Arts Center presents renowned artists from around

the globe and from close to home, with a special focus on experiences

that expand cultural awareness and deepen understanding. The center is

creating a thriving creative community fueled by inspiration, where patrons

have meaningful experiences, enjoying arts of the highest caliber in a wide

variety of forms.

The desire to serve is deeply ingrained in Virginia Tech’s learning,

discovery and engagement. More than a motto, Ut Prosim is a value system

that guides students’ decisions and helps mold them into responsible

citizens of the world.
